Somaliland Coast

Eco-Tourism & Conservation

Somaliland offers one of the last truly untouched travel frontiers on Earth. From the pristine, white-sand beaches of Berbera that plunge into the biologically diverse Gulf of Aden, to the mist-shrouded peaks of the Daallo Forest escarpment, the ecological diversity is staggering.

The Ministry of Tourism enforces strict eco-tourism guidelines to protect our endemic wildlife, ensuring that adventure tourism—such as scuba diving in our virgin coral reefs or trekking in the Cal Madow mountain range—remains completely sustainable.

Laas Geel

Ancient Civilizations

Historical tourism is anchored by the breathtaking Laas Geel cave formations, located on the rural outskirts of Hargeisa. These vibrant Neolithic rock paintings, dating back to 9000 BC, are considered among the most ancient and well-preserved in Africa, depicting early pastoralist societies and ceremonial cattle.

Further down the coast lies the ancient ruined city of Zeila, a historical powerhouse of the Adal Sultanate and a critical node in the ancient spice routes connecting the Roman Empire to the East.
