The Berbera Economic Transition Authority (BETA) represents a paradigm shift in Red Sea geopolitics and global trade. Moving far beyond traditional port logistics, the BETA plan is actively transforming the Berbera Corridor into a smart, interconnected digital logistics hub.
Phase II of the initiative, currently accelerating ahead of its 2026 targets, includes the construction of massive automated warehousing zones, a dedicated liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal, and an entirely new commercial power grid fueled by hybrid solar-wind energy arrays.
By integrating AI-driven supply chain tracking and biometric customs clearance, the BETA plan ensures that cargo traversing from the Indian Ocean, through Somaliland, and into the heart of mainland Africa does so with unprecedented efficiency, zero bottlenecking, and absolute border security.

Phases of Implementation
Deep-Water Expansion
Completed ahead of schedule. The addition of a 400-meter quay and 7 gantry cranes allowing the simultaneous docking of multiple ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs).
Special Economic Zone (SEZ)
The establishment of a 12-square-kilometer tax-free jurisdiction. Featuring automated cold-storage facilities for agricultural exports and dedicated manufacturing blocks for foreign direct investors.
Digital Corridor Integration
Complete digital tracking via blockchain ledger from the Red Sea to the Ethiopian border. Deployment of IoT sensor grids across the Berbera-Wajaale highway to optimize freight flow and security.
